Ruairi FKA Phoenix

He’s the dog formerly known to his fans at OESR as Phoenix, who rose from the ashes and is now Ruairí (it’s just Rory in Irish, and rhymes with jury). Phoenix sounded too much like Finn, his new best friend and multiple times per day wrestling partner. Finn might look like a wolf and is a solid ball of muscle almost double his size, but Ruairí’s as tough as they come and never quits.

Big energy comes in small packages, and that was the case here. After a few tries in loving foster homes, the wonderful people at OESR knew he had too much prey drive and sent him off to Michigan for boot camp at Second Chance Bird Dogs. What do you know, he was a natural and took to hunting like it was his life’s purpose (and maybe it is!). These few short months were exactly what he needed and the right place to get it. Turns out he was a natural!

His new people saw a video and knew he’d be a wonderful fit in their home. Mom and dad had rescued tough cases for a couple decades and were ready for a new family member. Their daughters hadn’t known life without dogs. Plus, dad grew up with an English setter and was learning to hunt himself.

Just like that, everyone involved hit the jackpot. Ruairí is running around with his buddy Finn all day, going on hiking adventures, and being loved in his new home where the adjustment period was all of about 36 hours. He and dad are learning to hunt together. Dad doesn’t want anyone to know, but his shooting is sorely behind Ruairí’s nose. What a story, what a road, what a dog.
